FAQ

WHAT TYPE OF EQUIPMENT DO YOU USE?

We use Pilates equipment by Balanced Body studio reformers, towers and springboards.  We have selected the top-of-the-line models from Balanced Body and think you will enjoy the equipment as much as we do.

WHAT IS THE BEST DEAL?

Classes can seem like a bit of a higher price point – because our classes have no more than 11-12 people and are taught by the best instructors on the best equipment.  Our best deal is our Mighty Monthly Pass, which includes 10 classes a month AND 10% off all clothing and retail items AND 10% off all classes, privates and workshops for yourself.  The Mighty Monthly pass is $295 (LA, Berkeley, Lafayette) $340 (SF/Marin) and monthly billed on Autopay, with a 3 month minimum. This is our best deal ever at $29.50/$34 class. You are also still eligible for our ongoing Monthly Mighty Loyal offer – which is 1 free class after you take 12 classes in a calendar month (can take classes down to under $22!).

CAN I SIGN UP FOR THE NEW CLIENT SPECIALS IF I COME IN ON CLASSPASS OR ANOTHER DEAL?

Absolutely!  And anyone can sign up for both the New Client Class Special AND the New Client Privates Special.

WHAT IF MY CLASSES EXPIRE?

We give you lots of time to use ‘em or lose ‘em. Many studios have a one or three month expiration and Mighty’s is a generous six.

CAN I BRING MY PET TO THE STUDIO?

Sorry, no pets allowed except for service animals.

CAN I BRING MY KIDS TO THE STUDIO?

Unfortunately, we don’t have the space for child care. We love having little ones stop by to say “hi,” but we ask that children do not stay there. This is for their safety and to ensure safe, fun workouts for all by minimizing distraction for both trainers and clients.  Sorry, no exceptions (the owner is a single mom, and she doesn’t even allow her little joy in while she takes class).

AT WHAT AGE CAN SOMEONE GET MIGHTY?

Minors aged 14 and up are welcome to attend class with parent or guardian.  Clients 16-17 years of age will require a New Client Waiver to be signed by their parent or guardian.

WILL I GET INDIVIDUAL ATTENTION?

Yes, with only 10-12 students in class, the instructors can suggest modifications specifically to you. If you’ve done Pilates mat, yoga or gym classes before, you know that 10-12 students is a great number. But if you have special needs or injuries, then we suggest you take 1-on-1 sessions until you are comfortable modifying exercises on your own.  Every student (outside of Mighty Foundation classes) is expected to know how to use the equipment so please take at least 3 Mighty Foundations or 1:1 sessions before jumping into classes.

SHOULD I DO ANYTHING SPECIAL FOR MY FIRST CLASS?

You should show up at least 10 minutes early. We’ll have you fill out a form, show you around and introduce you to your instructor. See our How to Prep section in New to Pilates and be prepared to have fun!

WHAT IF I AM LATE TO CLASS?

For your own safety and as a courtesy to others, we do not allow people to join the class who are more than 10 minutes late. We know schedules can get harried and parking can be a challenge, but please try to arrive to class on time.  We really don’t allow clients in after 10 minutes.  Sorry, no exceptions.

WHAT IF I AM PREGNANT?

Congrats! Pilates is a great way to stay connected to your changing body, keep you toned and prep you for delivery. There are so many modifications to standard classes and we want to ensure you to have a safe AND challenging workout. After the first trimester we only allow pregnant clients to take Privates, Duos or Pre/Post Natal classes, as the safety and quality of workout for you and your baby is our number one priority. No exceptions on pregnant clients after the first trimester in Pilates classes.  We try to offer a great schedule of Pre/Post Natal classes to keep your Pilates practice going. Always ask your doctor if Pilates is ok for you during pregnancy.

WHAT IF I HAVE BACK ISSUES?

Building your core can definitely help improve back issues. Many people find Pilates is an excellent choice for preventing or managing back issues. We’ll teach you how to fire up your core and gently use your back muscles. We recommend a few 1-on-1s with a trainer before jumping into classes if you have back problems. If you have major injuries, we advise 1-on-1 Private sessions and your doctor’s approval to exercise is requested.

IS PILATES SAFE TO DO EVERY DAY?

Working out 4 to 5 times a week is ideal.  Come a few times a week and mix it up with a bike ride, swim, TRX or a hike to keep your work outs interesting.  Joseph Pilates said: “In 10 sessions, you will feel the difference. In 20, you will see the difference.  And in 30, you’ll be on your way to having a whole new body.” Of course, we would love to see you every day!

CAN I SIGN UP FOR CLASS IF I HAVE NEVER DONE PILATES?

We ask you to take our Mighty Foundations class or have 1-on-1 training on equipment before signing up for any of the classes. If you have done Pilates mat classes before, then you are one step ahead, but you still need to gain experience using the equipment. We want our classes to be challenging for all levels, so we ask that people know the basics before jumping into classes.

WHAT IF I HAVEN’T WORKED OUT IN A LONG TIME?

We offer modifications to many exercises and encourage you to move at your own pace. If you need to take a little break during class, you will feel comfortable doing it. And sign up for Mighty Foundations even if you have done lots of Pilates classes before to ease yourself back in.

DO I HAVE TO GET ON MY COMPUTER TO SIGN UP?

You can download the Mighty Pilates app from your Iphone or Android app store or get on the MindBody app and search for Mighty Pilates then add us to favorites.  You can purchase or book sessions here.  We also love that you can add directly to your calendar, get the latest Mighty news, and filter by your favorite instructor.

WHAT IF CLASSES ARE FULL?

Definitely hop on the wait list for a class – we’ll notify you if a space opens up and you can decide then if you want to join us. If the wait list is full and you really want in the class, stop by and we’ll put you in if there is a last-minute no show. We do allow clients who are signed up to join 10 minutes late so you may be “bumped” if the signed-up client shows up (don’t worry you won’t pay for the few minutes you got to work out).

WHAT IF I NEED TO CANCEL A CLASS?

Our cancellation policy is 12 hours in advance for classes and 24 hours in advance for Privates and Semi-Privates. If you do not cancel before this window you will be automatically charged for the class or session. If you do not call to cancel and are a “No Show” then you will be charged an additional $10. If you late cancel and someone from the waitlist gets your spot, you are still charged for the late cancel. To cancel a class you may cancel online, phone the studio or send an email. Sorry, no exceptions.

WHAT IF I AM NEW?

We love Pilates newbies! If you are brand new to using Pilates machines, we require that you take at least 3 Mighty Foundations classes or Private sessions before jumping in to other classes. This helps you get a hang of our style and familiarize yourself with our equipment. We think a combination of a few Private sessions and a couple of Mighty Foundations is ideal and your practice will benefit in the long run. Even if you have tons of Mat classes under your belt, Mighty Foundations is a must.  See our “New to Pilates” section.

WHAT TYPE OF TRAINING DO YOUR INSTRUCTORS HAVE?

Unlike some Pilates studios, all of our instructors are trained and certified in Pilates. We offer ongoing training for our instructors with Courtney Miller, who we consider the best in teaching advanced Pilates class formats around the world.  We keep our instructors inspired by paying for classes outside the studio (heck, they can use it to take a meditation or water aerobics class!) and ongoing specialty training in studio. They each come with their own styles and we love the variety.  All our TRX instructors have TRX certification.

IS PILATES FOR GUYS?

Absolutely! It was started by a fitness buff, Joseph Pilates, and it remains a great workout for men. Our classes don’t have complex choreography or dance moves – we keep it sporty and you’ll break a sweat.

WILL I LOSE WEIGHT?

You will be building and toning your muscles and that muscle will continue to burn calories, even after you have left class. Many of our classes inject some cardio into them to help get your heart rate up and whittle away pounds. Our Mighty Cardio, Jumpboard classes, TRX and Power Pilates classes are the best for weight loss. Calories in, calories out – with proper diet and a good mix of classes, you can definitely lose weight.

WHAT SHOULD I WEAR?

Wear comfortable workout clothes that you feel ok sweating in. You’ll be laying down some of the time with your hands or legs in the air so make sure your clothes move with you. Please wear grip socks to class – we sell them if you don’t have them. Bring a water bottle – we have water for you.
