Frequently Asked Questions

Will I lose weight?
You will be building and toning your muscles and that muscle will continue to burn calories, even after you have left class.  And many of our classes incorporate some cardio into them to help get your heart rate up and whittle away pounds.  Our Mighty Sport class is the best for weight loss. Calories in, calories out – with proper diet and a good mix of classes, you can definitely lose weight.

Will I bulk up?
Your muscles will be toned in a long, lean fashion.  You will definitely see great muscle definition if you are coming a few times a week – but you don’t get bulked up muscles like you do from intense weight training.

What if I have back issues?
Building your core can definitely help improve back issues.  Many people find Pilates is an excellent choice for preventing or managing back issues.  We’ll teach you how to  fire up your core and not gently use your back muscles.  We recommend a few 1-on-1s with a trainer before jumping into classes if you have major back problems.

What if I need to cancel a class?
Our cancellation policy is 24 hours in advance for appointments and 12 hours in advance for classes.  If you don’t show up or cancel with adequate notice, you will be billed for the class.  We know schedules can get crazy – try to remember to cancel the day ahead so you aren’t billed.

What should I wear?

Wear comfortable workout clothes that you feel ok sweating in.  You’ll be laying down some of the time with your hands or legs in the air so make sure your clothes move with you.  You don’t have to wear shoes or socks – though you can wear socks if it is more comfortable for you.  However, your bare feet will give you better grip for some of the exercises. Bring a water bottle - we have water for you.

What if classes are full?
Definitely hop on the wait list for a class – we’ll notify you if a space opens up and you can decide then if you want to join us.  If the wait list is full and you really want in the class, stop by and we’ll put you in if there is a last-minute no show.

How long are classes?
All classes are 55-minutes and start right on time.

What if I haven’t worked out in a long time?
We offer modifications to many exercises and encourage you to move at your own pace.  If you need to take a little break during class, you will feel comfortable doing it.

Is this an ab workout?
Definitely!  You’ll learn how to use your core during all the exercises.  We’ll work out the entire body, but Pilates specializes in a core workout. Pilates is based upon a series of controlled movements that are centered around the body's "powerhouse" - abdomen, lower back, and buttocks.

Can I sign up for class if I have never done Pilates?
We ask you to take our Mighty Basics class or have 1-on-1 training on equipment before signing up for any of the classes.  If you have done Pilates mat classes before, then you are one step ahead, but you still need to gain experience using the equipment.  We want our classes to be challenging for all levels, so we ask that people know the basics before jumping into classes.

What if the class times doesn’t work with my schedule?
Please send us a note to info@MightyPilates.com, call us or stop by to suggest times that work best for your schedule and we’ll see if we can round up enough folks to add a class in.

Will I get individual attention?
Yes, with only 8 students in class, the instructors can suggest modifications specifically to you.  If you’ve done Pilates mat, yoga or gym classes before, you know that 8 students is a great number.  But if you have special needs or injuries, then we suggest you take 1-on-1 sessions until you are comfortable modifying exercises on your own.

Is Pilates for guys?
Absolutely!  It was started by a fitness buff, Joseph Pilates, and it remains a great workout for men.  Our classes don’t have complex choreography or dance moves – we keep it sporty and you will break a sweat.

Is Pilates safe to do every day?

Working out 4 to 5 times a week is ideal.  Come a few times a week and mix it up with a bike ride, swim or hike to keep your work outs interesting.  Joseph Pilates said: "In 10 sessions, you will feel the difference. In 20, you will see the difference. And in 30, you'll be on your way to having a whole new body." Of course, we would love to see you every day!

What if I am late to class?

For your own safety and as a courtesy to others, we do not allow people to join the class who are more than 10 minutes late. We know schedules can get harried, but please try to arrive to class on time.

Should I do anything special for my first class?

You should show up at least 10 minutes early.  We’ll have you fill out a form and will show you around.  And be prepared to have fun!

Can I bring my kids to the studio?

Unfortunately, we don't have the space for child care. We love having little ones stop by to say "hi," but we ask that children are not left unattended in the lobby. This is for their safety and to ensure safe, fun workouts for all by minimizing distraction for both trainers and clients.
